5HANE LAUNCH
OPENING
Good morning, and thank you for being here. The Heimat is where I started my journey in this neighbourhood and it means so much to begin this next journey here.
Seeing so many friends, neighbours, and people I know in this room, that means everything to me.
This campaign starts with gratitude, because none of this happens without all of you, so thank you.
I arrived in Ford City because I saw immense potential and believed in it enough to invest. I was willing to do the work then. I’m still willing to do it now.
Ford City is home. It's where I built my business, built relationships, and invested my heart. Today, I'm officially announcing my candidacy for City Councillor for Ward 5.
WHO I AM
I'm Shane, or as my signs say, 5-HANE. Many of you know me from Drouillard. From my work on the Ford City Business Improvement Association, from Dropped on Drouillard, from just being around the neighbourhood pretty much every single day.
My journey in the area started right here at Heimat. My wife Lauren and I found this place during Maifest, which is also happening again tonight. We bought a run-down building three days later. I joined the Business Improvement Association, then shortly after that became the Chair. Lauren opened a curated vintage shop called Bunch and manages the community garden. I operate my design business here called Spotvin and opened a co-working space for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Over the last eight years, I've shown up. When something needed doing in this neighbourhood, I got involved.
I've been a property owner here. A business owner. A neighbour. An investor who's bet on this place.
My wife Lauren and I live a few minutes from here with French Bulldog Benny and our cat Howie. My mom worked at the Foundry. I worked at the Richmond Beer Store. I walk to work most days down Edna. This isn't just where I operate, it's home.
Change happens through showing up, listening to people, and doing the work. That's how things get done.
WHY I'M RUNNING?
I'm running because Ward 5 deserves a councillor who lives here and understands this place. Someone who's been doing community work and is committed to seeing it through.
This is just the beginning and I'm ready.
I will be someone who is: Present in your neighbourhood. Accountable for decisions and willing to explain them. Connected to the real people and real challenges in this ward.
People want their voice heard at City Hall. They want help navigating city processes. They want progress on the things that matter to them.
That's what I'm here to deliver.
THE WORK AHEAD
Here's what matters to me as councillor:
Building neighbourhoods where people want to live. Where there's character, history, real community.
This area doesn't need to be discovered. It needs to be championed.
I've lived in many wards across this city. I've opened businesses and tried unique concepts downtown, in Walkerville, and found a home here in Ward 5. I enjoy all of the city's assets and I'm inspired by our neighbours.
A strong Windsor relies on strong, connected wards.
As your councillor, I'll focus on what matters:
Connection - Strong neighbourhoods are connected neighbourhoods. They're places where people know each other, where community happens, where we look out for one another. That's what I'm building toward.
Community first - Ward 5 is made up of neighbourhoods with their own identity and their own needs. My job is to listen and make sure your voice gets heard at City Hall.
Smart growth - Development that serves the community. Infrastructure that works. Protecting quality of life for families, seniors, young professionals, and businesses trying to survive and thrive here.
Transparency - You'll see me around. Community meet-ups, walking the neighbourhood, responding to you quickly. That's the standard I'm setting.
Action - Getting things done. Listening first, then fixing problems. Showing up and doing the work.
That's what I bring to council.
THIS IS YOUR CAMPAIGN
This campaign is about building the next chapter of Ward 5 together.
I can't do this by myself. I'm dedicated to doing the hard work, but I need you.
Please see our Team at the table over there if you’d like to sign up as a volunteer or to donate.
We're dropping off my intro flyer to over 9,000 doors over the next few weeks. We're going to talk to people. We're going to listen. We're going to build something.
Volunteer with us and get involved in mail drops, canvassing, or events. Donate, every bit fuels this grassroots campaign. Visit our website if you'd like to sign up as a volunteer or to donate. Spread the word, talk to your neighbours, share this on social media.
A Windsor that's more connected. More collaborative. More hopeful. That's what we're building.
Because when communities are connected, great things happen.
